I was perusing a friend's gallery and saw that she accomplished a particular look with mechanical pencil, acrylics and other misc. materials on cardboard. I've watched classmates spend forever on PS trying to get a texture to look like cardboard, and all we have to do is go scrounge around for it.
where did the down and dirty go for art? I miss paint on my arm and charcoal underneath my fingernails. I actually miss the smell of Aquanet when I'm trying to get a piece made with conte crayons not to smudge. I'm a paper freak, meaning I can't throw away a piece because it has the potential to be drawing material. it got to the point that when I made "mistakes" on them, I would just adjust my picture to fit the new direction the piece was apparently going. yet, I'm reminded every tuesday and thursday how frivolous your efforts can become when you can just press DELETE on the keyboard to get rid of whatever you don't like.
I can't do it.
I cannot be a graphic designer/artist. its just not in me. major respect to people who do. I mean in no way to disrespect their work. but I guess I had to find out the hard way that I love the hard way (how many PSers get their work on their shaggy clothes?).
so in conclusion, I leave the digital world to those who can and have tamed it. I will peruse your galleries and continue to appreciate your work, because lord knows it takes a load of patience to do. I just hope that the same can be thought of with those who take the messier path.
